Frequently Asked Questions
Everything customers actually ask us, answered plainly — freight, stone, glass blocks, planters, timber, BBQs and fire pits. If your question is not here, it is not because we are avoiding it: add it to your enquiry list and we will answer it in writing, usually the same business day.

Ordering
Buying from Venice Street Living
Can I buy online, or do I need to enquire?
You can order online — freight is calculated at checkout on courier-sized items. Heavy items (stone, pallets, large furniture, baths, fire pits) are ordered online but freight is quoted after purchase, because pallet freight depends entirely on your address and whether there is a forklift on site.
Some products are enquiry-first by design — anything with variables, like cut stone or a table slab. Use the Enquiry List and we will quote properly rather than guess.
What is the enquiry list, and how does it work?
It is a running list of products you are interested in, gathered while you browse, with optional questions against each item.
Look for + Add to Enquiry List on any product page, or + Ask a question about this item to attach a written question. When you are ready, open the list and send it — it arrives with us as one email containing every product, quantity and question, so you get one clear answer instead of five emails.
Your list is saved in your own browser, not on our server, until you send it. Open your enquiry list.
What payment methods do you take?
Card and the usual accelerated checkout options shown at the checkout, plus bank transfer for trade and bulk orders by arrangement.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes, free from our warehouse yard at 14 Enterprise St, Molendinar QLD 4214, and viewings at the Mermaid Beach showroom. Choose collection at checkout and wait for our confirmation that it is picked and ready — not everything is held at the front counter.
Do you hold stock, or order it in?
Both. Core ranges are held at the Molendinar yard; large or made-to-order pieces come in on our containers. If timing matters to your project, ask before you order — we will tell you exactly where the stock stands rather than have you build a schedule on a guess.
Freight & delivery
How your order travels
Why is freight not charged at checkout on heavy items?
Because a flat heavy-item rate would either be wrong or expensive for everyone. A pallet to a Brisbane business with a forklift and a pallet to a home in a Perth suburb are completely different jobs. Quoting after purchase means you pay the real cost for your address — not an average that subsidises someone else.
If checkout shows a $0.00 freight line marked "Free" on a heavy item, that is not free delivery. It is a quoted-after-purchase item: we confirm the exact freight by email and charge nothing until you approve it.
What is a tail-lift, and do I need one?
A tail-lift is a hydraulic platform on the back of the truck that lowers your pallet to ground level. You need it if you are a home or a site with no forklift. Businesses with a forklift get the cheaper rate, because the driver does not have to unload by hand.
The pallet is delivered to the kerb or driveway — drivers are not insured to move it inside, up stairs or over gravel.
Do you deliver locally yourselves?
Within 15 km of Mermaid Beach (postcodes 4211, 4214, 4215, 4217, 4218, 4219, 4220, 4221, 4224, 4226, 4227, 4229, 4230) we run our own pallet delivery at $130 per pallet. That is our own truck and our own driver, not a courier — which is why it is priced per pallet rather than by distance.
Outside that radius, pallet freight is quoted for your address. Local delivery terms.
Can I track my delivery?
Courier parcels get tracking that we send you. Pallet freight is booked with a carrier who calls you to arrange the delivery window — so make sure the phone number on the order is one you will answer.
What about international and bulk orders?
We ship export and bulk orders by arrangement. See International & Bulk Enquiries or send us the destination and volume and we will come back with a route and a price.
What if I am not home when it arrives?
Pallet carriers charge a redelivery fee if nobody is there and no safe place was agreed. Tell us in the order notes if there is a loading dock, a forklift, or a preferred window, and we will pass it to the carrier before dispatch.
Stone & tiles
Cobbles, pavers, cladding and travertine
Is the freight price per pallet or per square metre?
Per full pallet, for up to 500 kg. It is never a per-m² price, a per-tile price, or the price for a sample. Any freight table on a stone product page is quoting a whole pallet.
Roughly what fits: ~6.5 m² of 30 mm cobbles and pavers (~75 kg/m²), ~10 m² of 20 mm stone (~50 kg/m²), or ~17 m² of 12 mm tiles (~29 kg/m²) — all under the 500 kg cap.
Am I buying one piece or one square metre?
Read the product's price unit line carefully — some tile and cobble lines are sold per individual piece with the dimensions printed, others are sold per m². The unit is stated on every product page. If it is ambiguous, ask us before ordering.
Will the stone match the photographs?
No, and it should not. Colour, veining, tone and surface texture vary piece to piece and batch to batch. Photographs show character, not a guaranteed match. Order the whole area in one batch rather than topping up, and ask us if a consistent look is critical.
Does it need sealing?
Most natural stone is porous and benefits from a penetrating sealer, particularly travertine and anything near a pool, kitchen or fire. Sealing also makes cleaning and stain removal far easier. Some finishes are intentionally left raw — ask us about the specific stone if you are unsure.
Why is my delivery heavier or bigger than expected?
Because stone is dense. Weights on the site are calculated from the dimensions and a measured density of 2.45 g/cm³, not estimated — a 600×400×30 mm paver really is around 12 kg. Check the per-piece weight before you order large areas.
Cladding and crazy pave — what sizes arrive?
Pieces are random, 25–45 cm, averaging around 30 cm, and sold per m². It is boulder-look stone veneer, so the sizes vary by design — that variation is what makes the laid finish read as natural rather than tiled.
Glass blocks
Solid crystal glass masonry
How many blocks can I ship by courier?
Each block is declared at 2.4 kg (actual 2.33 kg — rounded up so a parcel never bills over the limit).
- 9 blocks = 21.6 kg — stays inside the 22 kg courier band
- 10 blocks = 24 kg — crosses into pallet freight
For a small job, nine blocks is the economical quantity.
Mortar or silicone?
Mortar suits load-bearing masonry walls. Structural silicone suits panels, curves and cleaner lines with more movement tolerance. Spacers hold a uniform 10 mm joint either way and stop blocks sinking while bedding cures.
For anything structural or load-bearing, have the wall design signed off by a licensed builder or engineer. We supply the materials, not the certification.
Can I use them outside?
Yes — screens, bathroom windows and light wells are common uses. What matters is the framing and the sealant detail. Ask us which framing system suits your opening before you build the wall.
How are they delivered?
Up to nine by courier. Ten and over travel on a pallet, because loose blocks in cartons break. See our Glass Blocks Buying Guide.
Pots & planters
Ceramic, terracotta and lightweight planters
Are the lightweight planters ceramic?
No. Be clear on this before you buy: our Venice Elements planters are moulded in lightweight recycled polymer with cement, terracotta and stone look finishes. They are not clay, ceramic, kiln-fired, terracotta, concrete or stone.
What they are is a seamless one-piece planter that is UV-stabilised, does not chip like fired clay, weighs a fraction of the real thing, and freights for far less. Made from recycled polymer waste — the ecological story is genuine.
Are the ceramic pots frost-proof?
They are built for the Queensland climate. If you are sending one somewhere that freezes, use it under cover or bring it in over winter — repeated freeze-thaw is hard on any fired clay, and we will not claim otherwise.
Do the pots have drainage holes?
Most do — the Specifications table on each product states it. Where there is no hole, the pot is designed as a cachepot: plant into a nursery pot and drop it inside.
Why does my pot look different to the photo?
Hand-made and fired. Glaze depth, tone and surface vary between pieces — that is the character of a hand-finished pot, not a fault. No two are identical.
How much soil do I need?
Roughly 70–80% of the pot's internal volume, leaving a watering gap at the rim. The dimensions on the product page give you the volume; if you tell us the pot and the plant, we will tell you what it needs.
Timber furniture
Solid suar hardwood tables and benches
Is it solid timber, or veneer?
Solid. Suar is a dense tropical hardwood, and each top is a single slab — grain, colour and edge shape differ piece to piece. The table you receive will not be a pixel match for the photograph, because no two slabs exist.
Does it need oiling?
Suar is naturally durable, but any solid timber outdoors will dry and silver over time. Re-oiling periodically keeps the original tone and slows surface checking. Left untreated it weathers to a silvery grey, which many people prefer.
Can it stay outside permanently?
It is made for covered outdoor living — verandahs, patios, alfresco. Full uncovered sun and rain will weather the surface. It will not fall apart, but it will change.
How heavy is it, and how is it delivered?
Very. These freight on pallets, with the exact cost confirmed for your address before dispatch. Plan for two people at the receiving end — the top alone is a genuine two-person lift.
Can I get a custom size?
Sometimes, depending on slab availability — and a custom cut is final sale once work starts. Send the dimensions to your enquiry list and we will tell you honestly what is possible.
BBQs & charcoal
Casa Lusso ceramic charcoal grills, fuel and accessories
Which charcoal should I use?
Gidgee is the premium choice — dense Australian hardwood, burns hot and long, clean flavour. Mangrove is the versatile all-rounder and lights faster. Both are lump charcoal, not briquettes; briquettes burn cooler and ash more.
How much charcoal do I need?
A kamado-style grill uses far less than an open BBQ because it is insulated — a full firebox for a long cook, a modest handful for a quick sear. A 10 kg bag covers many sessions; 18–19 kg bags are the better value if you cook often.
Does the BBQ arrive assembled?
Check the Specifications table on the product — most units need the stand, side shelves or handle fitted, which is straightforward with two people. If you want it assembled or placed for you, ask before ordering and we will tell you what we can arrange.
Will it fit a rotisserie?
The rotisserie kit fits our ceramic egg grills. Check the size match on the product page or add the grill and kit to your enquiry list together and we will confirm the pairing rather than let you guess.
Do you carry spare parts?
Grates, gaskets, thermometers and ash tools are stocked or can be ordered. Send a photo of the part and your model and we will tell you what is available.
Fire pits & chimineas
Corten steel and ceramic outdoor fire
Is the rust a fault?
No. Corten steel forms a stable oxide layer that protects the steel beneath, settling into a deep even brown. That patina is the finish. Expect an orange run-off period in the first months — keep it off pale paving and render while it settles.
Can I leave it out in the rain?
It is built for outdoors, but a cover when not in use will extend its life and stop water pooling in the firebowl. Empty the ash once fully cold — wet ash is corrosive.
What fuel does it take?
Seasoned hardwood or lump charcoal. Never briquettes or treated/painted timber — they burn dirty, ash heavily and leave residue in the firebox.
How do I season a new fire pit?
Start with small fires and build up gradually over the first few uses. It lets the material settle and the patina form evenly, and it prevents the thermal shock that cracks ceramic.
How is a chiminea delivered?
On a pallet, supplied in its component pieces — chimney stack, fire bowl and stand. Freight is confirmed for your address before dispatch and charged only once you approve it. Two people to position it.
The Abraxas 150 cm fireplace — when does it ship?
Coming soon — around December 2026. We do not quote a fixed dispatch date at reservation, because sea freight and customs are outside our control. We email at every milestone and confirm your actual dispatch date as the batch nears completion. Cancel any time before dispatch for a full refund. Pre-Order Policy.
Stone baths & basins
Natural stone and terrazzo
Will my floor take the weight?
A full stone bath is very heavy once filled. Empty weight is on the product page. On a suspended timber floor or an upper level, have a builder confirm the load before ordering — this is a structural question, not a formality.
Does stone need sealing?
Natural stone is porous. A penetrating sealer before first use is recommended, particularly for basins seeing soap and oils daily, with periodic re-sealing to keep it resistant.
Who installs it?
A licensed plumber. We can confirm the waste and tap requirements for the model you are considering before you buy, so your plumber is not guessing on the day.
How does it arrive?
On a pallet, freight confirmed for your address before dispatch. Two people minimum to move it, and check doorway and stair widths before delivery day.
Returns
Change of mind, faults and damaged freight
Can I return something if I change my mind?
Within 14 days of delivery or collection, unused and in original packaging with pallets and straps intact, for store credit — less a 10% restocking and admin fee. Change of mind does not attract a cash or card refund under Australian Consumer Law, and return freight is at your cost.
Measure carefully and check quantities before ordering. Store credit is valid 12 months. Full refund policy.
What is not returnable?
Custom work (cut stone, bespoke basins, modified slabs), installed or partially installed building materials, sealed stone, clearance and ex-display items, plants and gift cards.
It arrived damaged — what now?
Photograph the pallet, the packaging and the damage before you unpack fully, and contact us straight away. Under the Australian Consumer Law you are entitled to repair, replacement or refund for a major fault or transit damage. Do not sign a clean delivery docket for visibly damaged freight.
Something is missing from my order?
Check the packing against the product page — stone and tiles are counted by weight or by the piece listed. If it is genuinely short, email us with your order number and we will resolve it.
Trade
Builders, landscapers and designers
Do you offer trade pricing?
Yes, with volume-based tiers rather than a single discount code. Apply through the Commercial Access Gateway with your ABN, and we will set your level once it is verified. Trade terms.
Can you deliver to site?
Yes, and we will want to know whether there is a forklift and any access restrictions — a pallet that cannot be placed is a wasted trip. Give us the site contact and we will coordinate the call-ahead.
Can you supply to a schedule?
For project quantities, yes by arrangement — staging deliveries to match your build programme. Tell us the programme and we will tell you what stock position supports it.
